George Pickens ‘significant’ injury impacts Week 15 status vs. Eagles

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin provided an update on wide receiver George Pickens in his Tuesday press conference, labeling him “doubtful” for the upcoming matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to Tomlin, Pickens underwent an MRI, revealing a hamstring injury that appeared more serious than initially expected. While there remains a slim possibility that Pickens could suit up, the outlook suggests the team will likely err on the side of caution.

This news is a tough break for the Steelers offense, as Pickens has been a rising star known for his acrobatic catches and playmaking ability. The third-year wideout has been a key target for quarterback Russell Wilson and a fan favorite for his highlight-reel performances. Without Pickens in the lineup, the Steelers must lean more heavily on Calvin Austin III, Van Jefferson, Mike Williams and Ben Skowronek.

Hamstring injuries are notoriously tricky, often requiring careful management to prevent aggravation. With the Steelers focused on the long-term health of their leading receiver, the decision to rest Pickens could help ensure he avoids a lingering issue later in the season/early postseason.

The Steelers will need Pickens as close to 100% for their playoff run — and, hopefully, it is a run and not their typical one-and-done.
