'George Osborne is either utterly deluded or a shameless knave'

Few, if any, other members of David Cameron’s Tory Government have earned as much since as multimillionaire George Osborne – and the austerity Chancellor remains as out of touch as ever.

Rejecting obvious evidence that his spending cuts weakened Britain’s health and social care services before Covid is the self-denial of an arrogant Conservative who is either utterly deluded or a shameless knave.

What is more he never got the public finances under control. Osborne’s austerity and tax rises choked a promising recovery inherited from Labour as he regularly missed borrowing and debt targets.

Doctors who criticise Osborne are on the money when they know the NHS and other services were dangerously weak as Covid hit.

Denying he didn’t fund the NHS properly is preposterous after he imposed the tightest financial straitjacket in history.

The Covid inquiry is revealing senior Tories are from another planet.

Tory squeeze

The reckless incompetence of a UK Conservative Government triggered soaring interest and mortgage rates and a UK Conservative Government is adding to the pain now by withholding help.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt makes it worse by egging on the Bank of England to increase rates even higher to squeeze inflation.

His Tory hammer economics hits people by leaving them with less to spend in the hope that will reduce shop prices.

Spiralling mortgages and rents aren’t only the responsibility of the crazy premiership of Liz Truss. Sunak and Hunt are to blame for mismanagement of the economy too.

Other big economies doing better than us is an international condemnation of Torynomics.

Pray for them

The five people missing on the Titanic sub is a disaster film made real.

But all hope isn’t abandoned. Expanding the search keeps alive the possibility of a miracle.
