George Clooney hails wife Amal a 'force of nature' in new Lorraine Kelly interview

George Clooney has described his wife Amal as a “force of nature” in a new interview.

During a chat with Lorraine Kelly for her self-titled ITV morning show, the Hollywood star praised his barrister wife, 45, to whom he has been married to since 2014. They share twins Ella and Alexander who were born in June 2017.

Clooney was asked by Kelly if he had attended the recent Fashion Awards alongside his wife as he noticeably wasn’t photographed next to her.

Ocean’s 11 star Clooney - who had his big break in hospital drama ER - replied: “Do I look like I was at a fashion award?”

“If I’m in a picture with my wife, they do cut me out. No, I wasn’t there, I sadly missed the fashion awards, which really cuts me there [points to his heart].”

Speaking about how he is treated on the red carpet when he is with his wife, the Hollywood actor, 62, replied: “They always say, ‘George was nice enough to hold the umbrella for his gorgeous wife’.

"She is a force of nature and so homely, but we do what we can, we survive.”

Clooney was on the show promoting his latest movie The Boys in the Boat, which he directs.

The American biographical sports drama is based on the 2013 book of the same name by Daniel James Brown.

Set in the 1930s, it centres on the University of Washington’s rowing team and follows them from their Depression-era beginnings to winning gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

Fantastic Beasts and Masters of the Air actor Callum Turner, 33, also co-stars.

About taking on the project, Clooney said: “The story felt like an old-fashioned film, the book did. We shot it to try to feel old fashioned.”

Turning to London-born Turner, he added: “There’s a big kiss at the train station and I had to talk to him…”

To which Turner interrupted: “You had to teach me how to kiss!”

Clooney continued: “You had to kiss differently. Really like an old fashioned movie, new movies, everyone’s got their tongues and this one had to be old fashioned kissing.”

When asked how he knew Turner was the right person for the job, Clooney joked, “He was the least expensive.”

“I actually paid him to do it,” Turner replied.

The movie also stars Joel Edgerton, Jack Mulhern and Luke Slattery.

The Clooneys were both in attendance at the premiere of the movie at the Curzon Mayfair in central London last month.
