George, Charlotte and Louis settling into new school after 'tense' time for Kate Middleton

It's been all change for the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis of late.

Not only did they have to deal with the sad death of the Queen before William and Kate got used to their new titles and responsibilities, they also moved house. The family of five upped sticks from Kensington Palace in London to move to the four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor estate. The move was an important one for the three children as they all started at the nearby Lambrook School with nine-year-old George and seven-year-old Charlotte leaving their previous school of St Thomas's in Battersea, South London.

However, on the day that classes began, George, Charlotte and four-year-old Louis learned that their great-grandmother the Queen, who they called 'Gan Gan' had died aged 96.

And a source close to the Waleses told PEOPLE magazine that it proved to be a "stressful" time - especially for Kate.

They said: "Things were very tense that week; it was not exactly the settling-in period they had hoped for."

However, another friend added that despite the tense start, the family are now relishing their move to Windsor with the children able to "freely play" in the open parkland.

They said: "They love that the kids can go out on their bikes and cycle around the estate, and they are all really excited to meet everyone. It's a real little community."

Since becoming Prince and Princess of Wales, it has been a busy time for William and Kate with engagements up and down the country.

There have been trips to Wales and Northern Ireland with Kate also visiting a maternity unit in Surrey and William dropping by St George's Park, the training base for the England football teams.

However, it is likely to be a quieter couple of weeks for the pair as George, Charlotte and Louis enjoy their half-term holidays.

The trio broke up for the holidays last Friday and doesn't have to return to class at Lambrook until Monday, October 31.

And in the past, William and Kate have wound down their public appearances during holiday times in order to spend precious family time with their children.

In fact, it is believed during the October holidays last year that the family jetted off for an exciting holiday in Jordan.

And fans got a glimpse of the trip last year as a beautiful family photo taken in Jordan featured on William and Kate's Christmas card last year.
