Geordie Shore star Aaron Chalmers explains why he turned down Tommy Fury fight

Geordie Shore star Aaron Chalmers claims that he had gone as far as inking a deal to fight Tommy Fury, before ultimately pulling out of the fight.

Chalmers, who has spent the last two years preparing for his professional boxing debut after quitting MMA, is gearing up to finally step in the ring on Friday night on Wasserman Boxing's show in Liverpool. But the reality TV star has had a number of stop-start attempts at launching his career, including a Newcastle date earlier this year that was cancelled due to injury.

And the Geordie fighter has told of how he was once signed to fight Love Island star and possible Jake Paul opponent Tommy Fury, but opted against it after poor preparation. Chalmers has since been training with Adam Booth alongside the likes of Kurt Walker and Michael Conlan, and now feels he is ready to get another shot at Fury.

"Before I moved to Adam's I had signed to fight Tommy Fury," Chalmers told Mirror Fighting in an exclusive chat. "It was eight weeks notice and I was heavily drinking, out of shape and it was on some different promotion.

"Then I met Adam and it was like 'this is not a fight that makes sense', because it's my first fight. So I've put it on the back-burner but now it's something in my head that I want to have still."

And Chalmers believes that a win over Fury's one-time opponent Anthony Taylor could be enough to build hype for a prospective battle of the reality stars. The Manchester native is 8-0 as a professional and is currently eyeing up a bout with Paul in the summer, but was unable to stop the much smaller MMA fighter last summer in his US debut.

Should Fury be confirmed as Paul's opponent for the Madison Square Garden fight night on August 6, Chalmers would be keen to face Taylor, with whom he has shared a rivalry dating back to their days in Bellator MMA.

The American, famous for sparring with the likes of Paul and AJ McKee is a cocky personality, and at 2-3 as a boxer could be a perfect second or third opponent for the Brit. The pair have gone back-and-forth on social media in the hopes of landing a spot on a prospective Paul vs Fury undercard

"Anthony always messages us and asks when we're fighting," Chalmers explained. "I'm like 'listen, we are going to f***ing fight'. Let me get the debut out of the way and a few fights in and then we'll have it.

"He's been chasing me since I was in MMA, but I think Tommy Fury struggled with him over four rounds, personally I do think that. But that's a fight I would f***ing love to take, I would blast his head clean off. These hands are like dynamite, these are heavy, heavy hands so yeah, I do think I would stop him."

Aaron Chalmers makes his boxing debut on Friday night at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool Live and free-to-air on Channel 5 from 9pm. Limited tickets are available via https://www.ticketquarter.co.uk/
