'Genshin Impact' Scaramouche release window, leaks, vision, element, and story

Scaramouche is finally coming to Genshin Impact. After years of speculation, HoYoverse confirmed in its Genshin Impact 3.3 livestream the former Fatui Harbinger will be a playable character in the next update. However, he’s not debuting as Scaramouche or even The Balladeer. They call him “The Wanderer.”

HoYoverse first introduced Scaramouche in Genshin Impact 1.1 as one of the eleven Fatui Harbingers. Genshin Impact 3.3 will launch on December 7 before the end of the year, so fans have been waiting nearly two years to play the misunderstood Anemo man. Here’s what we know so far about Scaramouche, including his backstory, abilities, and more.

When is Scaramouche coming to Genshin Impact?

Scaramouche is officially going to be a playable character in Genshin Impact 3.3, which comes out on December 7, 2022 at around 10 p.m. Eastern. As per the Genshin Impact 3.3 livestream, he plays a major role in the upcoming Archon Quest Interlude Chapter.

Scaramouche has been a recurring NPC since the Unreconciled Stars event back in Genshin Impact 1.1. His last major role was as a villain in the Sumeru Archon Quest storyline.

What is Scaramouche’s role in the plot?

Scaramouche often appears as a villain in random storylines and event quests. He first caught fans’ eyes as a haughty troublemaker and appeals to even more of them now as a troubled yet unhinged anti-villain. As per the latest trailer, he’s living his new life as The Wanderer after the incident where fellow Harbinger Il Dottore attempted to transform him into a god.

What is Scaramouche’s origin story?

At the end of the Inazuma arc, the Traveler has the option to ask about missing pieces of lore like about the Raiden Shogun’s “puppet” and if she’s heard anything about your sibling. If you ask about the Shogun’s puppet, Miko tells the story of a failed “prototype puppet” that eventually became Scaramouche. The puppet wasn’t based on Ei at all, just a proof of concept.

“The original plan was for Ei to simply discard it,” Miko told the Traveler. “But perhaps Ei thought this to be too cruel, because in the end she chose only to seal the power within it.”

Ei thought he wouldn’t be suited to life as her puppet because he shed tears at his own creation. So she let him wander as his own persona and live as an ordinary Inazuman citizen. He supposedly lived at the Shakkai Pavillion before joining the Fatui. Scaramouche also explains that he experienced “three betrayals” during this time, which broke his faith in humanity.

The Fatui eventually took an interest in him and one of their “eccentric geniuses” unsealed his power and made modifications that exceeded his original specifications.

Why do they call Scaramouche “The Wanderer”?

The Wanderer has always been Scaramouche’s alternate name. He apparently earned that name from Inazuman locals who recognized him as a homeless wanderer around their area.

What is Scaramouche’s element?

Scaramouche is officially an Anemo character! HoYoverse dropped a character preview confirming this information with his Wanderer redesign.

The Genshin Impact community originally believed Scaramouche would be an Electro character. Everything about him from his purplish color scheme and Electro Archon-related origins seemed to point toward that direction. However, a leak back in July 2022 suggested that he would actually be an Anemo character. The leak also claimed he would receive a character redesign to better match the element and better resemble other Anemo characters. Fans weren’t happy, considering they fell in love with the bowl-cut-wearing Harbinger villain from the start of the story.

Chinese leaker hxg_diluc claimed that Scaramouche would be an Anemo character way before the official redesign. His Delusion, an artificial Vision that empowers characters with dangerous consequences, was likely Electro similar to how Childe is a Hydro character with an Electro Delusion.

What do I need to farm for Scaramouche?

Scaramouche’s farming materials are already available thanks to Genshin Impact databases. Here’s a quick rundown from DevilTakoyaki on what fans need for his ascension and talent materials.
