Legendary actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were recently spotted together in public for the first time in 21 years. The couple enjoyed a dinner outing at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen in Santa Fe, N.M. Hackman, 94, was seen holding onto Arakawa's arm while using a walking cane for support.
During the outing, Hackman sported a gray fleece vest, plaid button-down shirt, olive green cargo pants, and lace-up hiking boots. He completed his look with a beige baseball cap and sunglasses. Arakawa, a classical pianist, wore a colorful Western-style paisley-print shirt, jeans, and brown suede boots, accessorized with dangly earrings.
The couple, who last appeared together at the Golden Globe Awards in 2003, resides in a rustic Southwestern-style ranch in Santa Fe. They met in 1991 when Arakawa worked at a gym frequented by Hackman. The private couple, who have no children together, lead a low-key life away from the spotlight.
Hackman, a two-time Oscar winner known for films like 'French Connection' and 'Bonnie and Clyde,' retired from acting in 2004. He has since maintained a reclusive lifestyle in Santa Fe. In March 2023, he was seen in good health while doing yard work.
Prior to his marriage to Arakawa, Hackman was married to Faye Maltese for 30 years, with whom he shares three adult children. The couple divorced in 1986. Hackman's dedication to his family and his preference for a quiet life in Santa Fe reflect his values and priorities beyond his illustrious acting career.
