Gemma Owen's former boss issues update on her future after Love Island

Love Island's Gemma Owen could see a career change when she leaves the Villa, but there are hopes she remains doing what she was "successful" at.

The 19-year-old entered the dating show villa earlier this month, telling everyone she was an international dressage star. Currently coupled with Luca Bish, Gemma has found herself in the spotlight on this year's show, with mixed reactions from viewers.

But as the star continues on her Love Island journey, the Chief Executive of British Dressage has shared his views on Gemma appearing on the show, and her future afterwards, the Daily Star exclusively reports. Having competed since a young age, Gemma has taken part in big competitions, she previously revealed.

Speaking of Gemma's previous success, Jason Brautigam said: "We are fully supportive of Gemma and wish her all the best of luck in Love Island. Gemma is a very successful dressage rider, representing Great Britain on our Junior team at the FEI Under 21 European Championships in Oliva, Spain last year, as well as finishing runner-up in our Young Rider class at the 2021 British Dressage National Championships.

"We very much hope Gemma will continue to pursue her burgeoning career in dressage after her time on Love Island and we are sure the equestrian community will be fully behind her."

Gemma, who is Michael Owen's daughter, made her feelings towards Luca known last week. Despite cringing after calling Luca the wrong name and their first row of the series as she called him a "p***k", Gemma addressed the situation as she said: "You’ve probably noticed I am being a little bit off the last day.

"What initially attracted me to you is that you didn’t give a sh*t but I’ve seen a different side to you, which I do like but I don’t want to feel that’s us two married off now and that’s it.”

The star had her world rocked when ex-boyfriend Jacques O'Neill entered the villa, but eagle eyed viewers were quick to say it was "staged" after "subtle hints".

Love Island airs at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub
