Gemma Collins left devastated by death of loved one as 'nothing could save her'

Gemma Collins has shared her devastation after her dad's "best friend" was put to sleep earlier today.

The reality star, 42, was flooded with messages of condolence after revealing her family was forced to put their dog, Lucia, down.

Although Gemma didn't give a reason for making their decision, she explained that there was nothing more that could be done to help her pooch.

In view of her 2.2million Instagram followers, the former car saleswoman said she was "beyond heartbroken" by the news as she shared a snap of the beloved pooch which her dad Alan loved.

Gemma said: "Beyond heartbroken, today our beautiful Lucia sadly had to be put down nothing could save her she was the best dog ever to our family for the last 15 years my dads best friend #loveyoulucia."

Her upload which has been flooded with over 200 comments saw fans and celebrity pals rushing to offer their condolences with legendary DJ, DJ Fat Tony commenting four red heart emojis.

"Such a sweet caring, loving doggy with so much heart, big hugs Gemma," wrote Jedward from their shared account.

While one fan penned: "Rainbow Bridge has another beautiful angel dog."

"I am so so sorry for your loss x she’s with her bestie Brian now but her other friend & neighbour Teddy will miss her very much," said a second.

Before a third went on to write: "Sorry for your loss… dogs make the best friends … may she run free now like when she was young."

"I'm so sorry for your loss. Fur babies are our family. RIP Lucia," typed a fourth.

Another added: "Sending lots of love. Loved Lucia when Alan brought her to the office."

Gemma has never shied away from sharing her love of animals and just last week, invited Their Majesties King Charles and Queen Camilla on a safari. After meeting the King and Queen at The Animal Ball, the GC said: "Me and King Charles and Camilla on safari, it would be amazing. I did ask him about it, and I said 'would you be up for it?' before explaining that the Monarch chuckled at her advance, which she took as "a yes".

Upon meeting Queen Camilla, Gemma reflected on the elephant sculptures and said: "They are absolutely beautiful, what I love about them is the way the eyes move with you in the garden."

"I'm just so happy to be here and share this evening with you," she added. During a chat with the King, she said: "You really are King of the planet and we love you for what you do for the animals, please keep getting that message out there, it means so much."
