Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi welcomed on Friday the joint tripartite statement issued by Saudi Arabia, Iran and China on the resumption of Saudi-Iranian diplomatic relations.
Saudi Arabia and Iran also agreed on reopening their diplomatic missions, the activation of the security cooperation agreement between them, and the cooperation agreement in the field of economy, trade, investment, technology, science, culture, sports and youth.
Albudaiwi expressed the GCC's support for what was stated in the joint statement and welcomed all steps that contribute to boosting security and peace in the region, and supporting the stability and prosperity of its peoples.
He stressed the importance of the pivotal role played by Saudi Arabia and its effective diplomacy on the regional and international arenas.
Furthermore, he hoped this step would help in strengthening global peace and security.
He expressed his gratitude to the efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman and Iraq for hosting the previous rounds of dialogue, and China for hosting the talks that resulted in the resumption of diplomatic relations.
Albudaiwi underlined the position of the GCC states in supporting the dialogue and resolving differences through political means, in line with the directives of the rulers of GCC countries, and respecting the United Nations Charter, international laws, principles of good neighborliness, sovereignty of states, and non-interference in internal affairs.
