Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi praised on Friday the pivotal role played by Saudi Arabia in the mediation aimed at resolving the Russian-Ukranian war.
He hailed the visits paid by Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah to Russia and Ukraine where he helped bridge divides and worked on resolving the crisis.
The FM had traveled to the countries to at the directives of wise Saudi leadership.
Albudaiwi also lauded the meetings held between GCC foreign ministers with officials from Russia and Ukraine.
The GCC countries were the first to call for a ceasefire and political solution to the conflict, he remarked.
They were the first to offer humanitarian aid aimed at easing the impact of the war and they backed the agreement to resume the export of food and mediated a prisoner exchange.
Albudaiwi stressed that the wise leadership and vision of GCC leaders always prompts them to resolve regional and international issues through diplomacy to ensure the rights of all warring parties in line with the United Nations Charter and international law.
