GBX, Sparkos and Kevin McGuire unleash sensational new video for country hit Wagon Wheel

George Bowie and country star Kevin McGuire’s collaboration on a cover of Wagon Wheel went down a storm when they put it out at the end of last year.

But it’s still racking up streams and being requested every week on the GBXperience – so the boys got together again to make a video for the country-dance smash which just hit 100k streams on Spotify alone and 250,000 on all platforms.

They put out a special one-month release Cash For Kids remix in December as well, but the main mix continues to fly several months down the line.

George said: “We knew this tune had something special and it was the perfect way to launch our collaboration, it’s the first of MANY things we will do with Kev – young Kevicii as we are calling him.

“I’ve always wanted to do something in that country dance style Avicii did so well before he sadly passed away, and Kev is the guy to do it.

“The Cash For Kids mix did well but this main version we did has really captured people’s imagination with 100,000 streams on Spotify and 250,000 across all platforms – so we thought let’s do a mad video that really shows off the whole fun vibe of the tune.”

And that is exactly what they did – in spades. The pair – with the help of their teams, friends and families – hired one of Scotland’s most iconic venues, roped in a group of Scottish line dancers and a load of extras, and threw an all-day hoedown.

Kev said: “It was wild. We knew the interest in the song was growing and growing, rather than dying down, so we wanted to really give people something extra.

“George, his wife Ellene and Sparkos aka Marc, plus me and my manager John McLaughlin, plus Olivia Pink from Dirt Comms who works with both artists, were throwing loads of ideas around but there was one that kept cropping up as the only place to go – The Grand Ole Opry.

“It took us weeks to pin them down but eventually we got a date nailed and we had it for a Sunday.

“Meanwhile we had our pr guys scouring Scotland for line dancers and Olivia there sorted this brilliant group of ladies, sent them our song and they worked out a special dance routine for it.”

George added: “The dancers were amazing – thank you to Maggie’s Line dancers from Bishopbriggs St Dominique Church, you were incredible and the dance routine was epic.

“Standing on the stage in there watching everyone line dup and dancing to our tune was a really special moment – I’ve done a lot of weird and cool things in my time but this felt really out there and like we had really nailed it.

“It was definitely one of the strangest days I’ve ever had. And it may be a while before I eat another Wagon Wheel.”

The vid is certainly memorable, blending together one of Scotland’s most iconic music venues, the GBX, Kev, biscuits and line dancers.

And it seems certain to rocket the tune to ever higher streaming numbers.

Kev said: “You wonder just how big this could get – we haven’t been pushing it and the numbers are crazy, so if this video goes wild it could get really massive.

“Geo, Marc and Ellene have been amazing, they’re rally helping shine a light on not only me but country music in Scotland and I can’t thank them enough.

“We have so many other plans together and you’ll hear more from us soon.”

George added: “Thanks to everyone involved – Gemma the camera ace and Kev for the amazing job on producing the whole video – and of course our lovely line dancers.

“We’ve actually heard about a class in the States using our song to dance to as well which is crazy.

“It all really kicks off now for GBX x Kevin McGuire or wee Kevicii as we call him.

“We have so much great stuff coming – but this video is the perfect way to kick it all off.”

GBX and Sparkos x Kevin McGuire’s Wagon Wheel is out now on all platforms.

The video goes live today at 4pm HERE.
