Veteran broadcaster Eamonn Holmes is recovering in hospital after suffering a stroke, his employer has confirmed.
The 66-year-old, one of the UK’s most recognisable TV presenters, was taken ill last week before doctors confirmed he had experienced a stroke.
In a statement released on Saturday, a GB News spokesperson said Holmes is now improving.
“He is currently responding well to treatment,” the spokesperson added.
“Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better.
“His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the people’s channel when he is ready to return.”
Holmes, who currently fronts GB News Breakfast alongside co-host Ellie Costello, will be absent from screens while he recovers.
Fellow presenter Alex Armstrong is set to step in and host the programme in his place over the coming days.
The Northern Irish TV star has enjoyed a decades-long career on British television, rising to prominence on GMTV before becoming a familiar face on ITV’s This Morning, where he spent more than a decade presenting alongside former wife Ruth Langsford. He later joined GB News as one of its flagship presenters following the channel’s launch.
GB News chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos paid tribute to Holmes, saying: “Eamonn is a loved member of the GB News family, and we’re with him every step of the way as he recovers.”
