Gaza Bombing: Medical Crisis Worsens, Civilians Bear Brunt

Nearly half of the 29,000 bombs dropped on Gaza are unguided 'dumb bombs'.

In the devastating aftermath of the recent Gaza bombings, the world is being offered a shocking firsthand look at the scale of the impact on civilian life. Warnings have been sounded that almost half of the 29,000 bombs dropped on the region were so-called 'dumb bombs' – not precision-guided and thus posing a greater threat to civilians.

This revelation comes hot on the heels of President Biden's comments that Israel has been engaging in merely quote 'indiscriminate bombing.' It was announced that his national security adviser will be dispatching to Israel on an important assignment to discuss potential means of reducing civilian casualties in future conflicts.

Gaza is currently facing an escalating humanitarian catastrophe. The dwindling living conditions for hundreds of thousands of civilians trapped in the area are beyond dire. A reporting team that managed to get inside Gaza has relayed horrifying visuals of a city strewn with trash, stagnant water, and the omnipresent pallor of tragedy; a haunting testament of the helpless population's plight.

On their excursion to a makeshift field hospital run by UAE medical volunteers, the true cost of conflict came to light. The hospital, currently serving as the southern settlement's only accessible treatment center, is overrun - over 130 of its 150 beds are filled, with patients including a large number of children.

The UN approximates that around two-thirds of the casualties in the current conflict have been women and children. For instance, one of the patients is an eight-year-old girl who survived a bombing strike that left her with a crushed femur. Heart-wrenching scenes like these are a common sight at the overcrowded Emirati Field Hospital.

The current death toll in Gaza stands at around 18,000 - a staggering number which is unparalleled by modern warfare's commonplace conflicts such as Iraq and Afghanistan.

Gaza's plight is worsened by the fact that international aid workers currently lack the needed access. With no reprieve in sight, this prolonged conflict has generated a humanitarian crisis of alarming proportions that urgently beckons the world's attention.
