Gavin Henson desperately searches for pub chef as £45k salary offered in staff crisis

Former rugby star Gavin Henson is facing a staff crisis at his pub as he's offered a £45,000 salary for someone to take up the role.

Gavin bought the Fox and Hounds in St Brides Major in 2019, but a number of factors including the Covid-19 pandemic and Brexit have left him very short of employees at the bar.

WalesOnline report that the rugby player put out an appeal on social media, saying: "I NEED A HEAD CHEF!!! Up to 45k, only open 4 days a week, over 6k tips per annum, Pension contribution. CASH REWARD FOR IMMINENT START. Open link below if interested. The Fox are looking for a creative and talented head chef with a genuine passion for creating memorable dishes."

An advert in job magazine The Caterer describes the pub as being in a "desirable location" in the Vale of Glamorgan, with the position offering up to £45,000 per annum, with around £6,000 in tips, extra days will be paid for and there is a 25% discount off food and drink at The Fox.

The ad also claims that there is a cash reward for "a successful candidate that can start imminently".

"The successful candidate will be joining a small family run business with a strong philosophy for work life balance, together we work as a team to achieve excellence in a supportive and fun environment." it continues.

Meanwhile, four in ten small businesses plan to grow their workforce in the coming weeks following a promising start to the year, a study has found.

More than half (56 percent) of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) reported a rise in earnings in the last quarter of 2021, against the same period in 2020.

A further 58 percent predict an increase in revenue this quarter compared to the same period last year, when the UK was in the third COVID-19 lockdown.

It's badly needed, as hospitality businesses In particular have struggled through coronavirus with forced shutdowns during two long lockdowns.

This has resulted in many businesses having to furlough staff for prolonged periods - with many employees finding better opportunities elsewhere.
