Gateshead are back in the Vanarama National League after they secured the point they needed to win the northern division on a memorable day in Lancashire. Only rivals Brackley conceded a late goal at Hereford to also draw 2-2, Gateshead denied all three points at Chorley by a stunning late leveller.
It mattered little as Gateshead deservedly finished top of the pile after a magnificent season, full of goals and enterprising football. They can now prepare for life back in the top-tier of non-league football - a party on Tyneside in Saturday's final game at home to Hereford guaranteed.
Cedwyn Scott's set-up saw early efforts from Macaulay Langstaff and Owen Bailey blocked inside the area before Jacob Blyth looped a header over the bar at the other end. Gateshead's trademark passing game was absent in the opening quarter as both sides inevitably went long in a no-holds barred contest.
