Gatehouse man skips his way to more than £4,000 for charity

A Gatehouse man has skipped his way to an incredible £4,470 in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Douglas McDavid took on the charity’s ‘100 skips a day in February’ challenge and celebrated his last day of skipping on Tuesday.

Around 30 supporters gathered in the town car park to cheer him as he completed his last few revolutions.

Douglas, 60, told the News: “Cancer Research UK do fantastic work and if I can do something to help them then that’s great.

“Survival rates for cancer have doubled over the past 40 years and consistent progress is being made.

“But improvements to technology and ground-breaking work offer new opportunities to find different ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer and improve survival rates even further.”

A great number of supporters turned up to wish Douglas well and skip with him.

Douglas added: “I would like to thank everyone who has donated so far – the response to the challenge has been fantastic.”

His Just Giving Page will be open for another week and anyone who would like to donate can do so at https://rb.gy/mhcgdi
