Gas stove cleaning tips? Try these affordable cleaning tricks to remove burnt food, grease and stubborn stains

A gas stove can quickly accumulate oil splatters, food spills and burnt residue during everyday cooking. If left unattended, this buildup can become difficult to remove. Here are some simple and affordable cleaning methods using common household ingredients.

1. Dish Soap And Warm Water

Mix a few drops of dishwashing liquid with warm water and soak a soft cloth or sponge in the solution. Wipe the stovetop to loosen fresh grease and food residue. For stubborn spots, leave the solution on the surface for a few minutes before wiping.

2. Baking Soda For Burnt Stains

Make a paste by mixing baking soda with a small amount of water. Apply it to burnt food marks and stubborn stains, then let it sit for several minutes. Gently scrub with a soft sponge and wipe the surface clean with a damp cloth.

3. Soak The Burner Grates

Remove the burner grates and soak them in warm water mixed with dish soap. Allow them to sit for around 15–20 minutes to loosen accumulated grease and food particles. Scrub gently with a suitable brush, rinse and dry completely before putting them back.

4. Clean The Burner Caps

Burner caps can collect food particles and grease over time. Remove them only when the stove is completely cool and clean them with warm soapy water. Use a soft brush to remove residue from accessible areas and allow them to dry thoroughly.

5. Use A Toothbrush For Small Areas

A clean, soft toothbrush can be useful for reaching narrow spaces around the burners and corners of the stovetop. Gently brush away dried food particles and grease, then wipe the area with a damp cloth.

6. Clean Spills Immediately

Fresh spills are much easier to remove than dried or burnt food. Once the stove has cooled, wipe away spills with a damp cloth and mild dish soap. Regular cleaning can help prevent layers of grease from building up.

Things To Avoid While Cleaning a Gas Stove

  • Do not clean a hot stove: Always allow the burners and stovetop to cool completely before starting.
  • Avoid pouring water directly on the stove: Excess water can enter burner openings and affect ignition or other components.
  • Do not use sharp objects: Knives and metal tools can scratch the surface and damage the stovetop.
  • Avoid harsh abrasive scrubbers: Steel wool and rough scouring pads can leave scratches, especially on glass or stainless-steel surfaces.
  • Do not use excessive cleaning products: Strong chemicals may damage the finish or leave unwanted residue.
