Gary Neville has told Manchester United chiefs to forget about appealing Casemiro’s red card against Crystal Palace. The Brazilian was dismissed at the weekend for grabbing Will Hughes’ neck during an of-field scuffle.
VAR reported the incident and, after a brief consultation, referee Craig Pawson did not hesitate to send Casemiro off and the Red Devils finished the game with 10 men. Newcastle United supporters were initially rejoicing before realising he would still be available for the Carabao Cup final.
A straight red card means the 30-year-old, one of Man United’s most integral players this season, will miss two clashes with Leeds and a home game against Leicester City. However, should they decide to appeal the ban and fail, Casemiro would miss an extra game and be excluded for the final.

The decision polarised football fans and pundits, with manager Erik ten Hag revealing the club were considering an appeal. Ex-Red Devil Neville has urged his former team to reconsider trying to get the ban overturned.
"He'll never get off,” he told his Sky Sports podcast. “It's too big of a risk. They could risk another game and they could increase it so they won't appeal it. I think they'll feel they can get through the three games. It'll be difficult for Ten Hag because he's been the most important player for Manchester United, he's held the ball well in midfield and Eriksen is obviously out as well.
"I thought it was harsh but I thought Erik ten Hag summed it up perfectly when he said he 'took a risk'. If you put your hands on someone's throat, even if it's just one of them you can kind of protect yourself, but I think once you put two you've got an issue. And he's basically taken a risk.”
