Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have clashed over Marcus Rashford - with Carragher declaring that the England ace is simply "not good enough" to play for Manchester United.
Rashford has slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford after a difficult season. The 24-year-old missed the start of the Premier League campaign due to shoulder surgery but has struggled to find any sort of rhythm since, netting just five goals in all competitions this year.
The United academy graduate has been linked with a move away from United in recent months, with various reports claiming that Rashford would be open to a fresh start in a bid to kickstart his career. However, a fresh report from The Telegraph this week claimed that Rashford is now determined to impress United's incoming manager, Erik ten Hag.
While discussing Rashford's disappointing season, Carragher claimed that Rashford wasn't good enough to play for Manchester United - much to Neville's annoyance. Speaking on The Overlap, Carragher said: "He’s just not quite good enough for Manchester United, Marcus Rashford. That’s all it is. That’s it, he’s not quite good enough for Manchester United. He’s Tottenham or Arsenal [level]."
But Neville was having none of it. He argued that Rashford - who has racked up over 300 appearances and 93 goals for United - has already proven that he can hack it at the club. Neville fired back: "He’s proven he’s good enough. I can’t let you get away with that."
Carragher refused to budge from his stance, though, and insisted: "He’s not going to win you the league or the Champions League. You’d need the two up front with him to be megastars and he’d be the addition."

Neville replied: "That’s like saying Divock Origi is not good enough for Liverpool, or Xherdan Shaqiri isn’t good enough for Liverpool." But Carragher ended the debate by conceding some ground, admitting: "OK he’d be a squad player. He’s not good enough to be in the first XI to win Manchester United the big trophies, he’s just a level below that."
Rashford is one of a host of stars whose future is unclear under Ten Hag. The Dutchman officially started his new role at Old Trafford this week fresh from guiding Ajax to the Eredivisie title - and Neville believes that Ten Hag's arrival could be the spark that Rashford desperately needs to reignite his flailing Manchester United career.
Neville added: "I think Ten Hag will look at Rashford and think he’s a project I can work with. I think Ten Hag will look at him and think he’s quick, he runs, if I can give him some coaching I think I can work with him."
