Gary Neville sends six-word message to Nottingham Forest after Premier League promotion

Nottingham Forest have been sent a welcome message from Manchester United legend Gary Neville, after they won promotion to the Premier League.

The Reds beat Huddersfield Town 1-0 at Wembley Stadium in the Championship play-off final to end a 23-year absence from England's top flight.

Levi Colwill's own-goal proved to be the decisive moment, although referee Jon Moss was involved in two controversial penalty moments in what was his final outing as a referee.

Shortly after full-time at Wembley, Neville posted on Twitter: Congratulations to @NFFC. See you in the @premierleague."

Neville, 47, was 24 when Forest were last in the Premier League and has featured six times against the Reds, winning five of their encounters. He played three minutes of a 2-1 defeat to Forest at Old Trafford back in 1994 and contributed an assist in the 8-1 drumming of the Reds back in 1999.

The legendary former United right-back has praised Forest and the job Steve Cooper has done in recent weeks. Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football show after Newcastle United's 2-0 win over Arsenal, he said: "The investment in the team has put pride back in the city and feeling back on the pitch. Newcastle is a major city. It's a fantastic place. The north of England doesn't get as much investment as it should do, a lot of clubs in the south have been bought.

"We need a strong Newcastle United, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest. These different cities around the country are really important to football in this country."
