Gary Neville responds to Arsenal ban petition after angering fans: ‘I’ll sign it!’

After Arsenal fans started a social media petition to ban Gary Neville from commentating on their games, they were probably not expecting the former Manchester United defender to add his signature.

A number of Gooners railed against Sky Sports pundit Neville during their dramatic 3-2 win over United on Sunday, which boosted their Premier League title lead to five points with a game in hand.

Over 16,000 Twitter users ‘liked’ a tweet from channel The Arsenal Therapy Show calling for him to be taken off future Arsenal games.

But he saw the funny side, replying: “I will sign it!”

Neville insisted that he felt his analysis was “fair” as his former side fell to a late defeat that surely eliminates them from the title reckoning.

Speaking after the game, the 47-year-old outlined why he still thought Arsenal will fall short in their pursuit of a first Premier League trophy in almost two decades.

“I don’t see them going on to win the league,” he said.

“I think Manchester City will win the league because I think what they’ve got in them is a special run. I think that at a point in the season Arsenal will lose one or two matches and City will be right on their shoulders and it’ll become very difficult for them.

“But they could win the league and, to be honest with you, I thought they’d be nowhere near.

“I can’t believe they’re in the chat. The fact they’re in the chat of winning the league is incredible, so it’s not a negative thing for me to say.”
