Gary Neville reminded Jamie Carragher he's an Everton fan after Liverpool comment

Gary Neville delivered the perfect put-down to Jamie Carragher after his Sky Sports partner bluntly told him " Liverpool supporters will never like you".

The two pundits have been no strangers to a frank exchange of views over the years and their impassioned debates have helped make Monday Night Football the roaring success it is today. Their back-and-forth often spills over to social media as Neville and Carragher are regular Twitter users, although, remarkably, they were on the same page in a recent disagreement with Gary Lineker.

The popular duo are not afraid to see the funny side of situations, either, with Carragher memorably - and quite literally - grabbing the popcorn as Neville rowed with Kia Joorabchian and the latter laughing at his colleague's heated exchange with Roy Keane. One of their most memorable moments came all the way back in the 2013/14 season, when Neville picked Brendan Rodgers as his manager of the season so far just before Christmas.

The Manchester United legend was speaking after a goalless draw between Arsenal and Chelsea on 23 December 2013 saw Rodgers' Liverpool side retain top spot in the Premier League. Neville weighed up Roberto Martinez and Mauricio Pochettino - then in charge of Everton and Southampton respectively - before siding with Rodgers. The former England right-back said: "You think about Martinez, you think about Rodgers, you think about Pochettino, who's probably just tailed off a little bit. But, for me, I've gone for Brendan Rodgers because, if you didn't know..."

At this point, Carragher broke into laughter before retorting: "Gary, listen, whatever you say, Liverpool supporters will never like you, so you don't have to try and get round..." This time, it was Carragher who was interrupted as Neville hit back by saying: "But you're an Everton fan anyway!" The quick-witted response prompted the studio to burst out laughing before Neville got back to justifying his selection.

Who is your favourite pundit? Have your say in the comments!

Although Carragher is one of Liverpool's greatest heroes of the Premier League era, he famously grew up as an Everton fan. Born in Bootle, Merseyside, he was raised by an Everton-supporting father and briefly trained with the Toffees' academy, but the vast majority of his youth career was spent with their local rivals who wear red. Carragher spoke openly about how his love for Everton subsided in his 2009 autobiography, recalling some of his "best friends suffering as a result of revolting abuse" at Goodison Park.

He would go on to spend his entire playing career across Stanley Park at Anfield, making 737 appearances and winning the Champions League in 2005. Carragher hung up his boots after the 2012/13 season and quickly joined Sky Sports as a pundit, setting in motion his partnership with former on-field rival Neville which continues to captivate audiences to this day.
