The Italian was dismissed and replaced by his assistant Cristian Stellini, but after a 25 minute capitulation against Newcastle, where the Magpies scored five goals in quick succession, Spurs fell to a 6-1 defeat and the interim was also dismissed.
Ryan Mason has been given the reigns for the rest of the season, but was tasked with a difficult clash early on against Manchester United. After going 2-0 down in the first half, a second half fight back saw goals from Pedro Porro and Son Heung-Min earn a point and showed some spirit for those fans once again.
There was some hope for a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool, but that was shot down in yet another early breakdown in the game. Curtis Jones and Luis Diaz scored in the first five minutes to give the home side the lead before Mohamed Salah slotted home a penalty after a foul from Cristian Romero on Cody Gakpo.
