Gary Neville makes Antony showboating admission after Manchester United win vs Arsenal

Gary Neville has given his verdict on Antony's debut after Manchester United's 3-1 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Antony got off to the best possible start in his United career as he scored after just 35 minutes against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon. The former Ajax winger looked lively during his first hour of football for the club, enjoying a memorable debut.

The Brazilian eventually made way for Cristiano Ronaldo just before the hour mark, as Marcus Rashford scored two goals in response to Bukayo Saka's equaliser to secure all three points for United. Erik ten Hag has now won four successive Premier League games as the memories of the early season defeats to Brighton and Brentford fade away.

Antony rightly made the headlines after he calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner past Aaron Ramsdale to get his United goalscoring account up and running. The 22-year-old's passionate celebration told fans all they needed to know about how much he wanted the move to United this transfer window.

The Brazilian's flair was also on full display at Old Trafford as he showed off a range of tricks and flicks that had the crowd on the edge of their seats. United's former defender has now given his verdict on Antony's debut skills, as Neville spoke to the Overlap.

He said: "My thought as a defender when you see an attacker doing that [showboating], your automatic thought is ‘you’re going to get whacked’. From a United point of view, we’ve been asking for personality, confidence and character so we can’t knock it because we’ve got a player who’s having himself, massively."

Fans will no doubt be eager for Antony to bring more of his flair to Old Trafford soon, even though defenders may well be eager to stop the winger in his tracks.
