Gary Neville drops Kieran Trippier England hint after Newcastle star was benched by Gareth Southgate

Gary Neville expects Kyle Walker to continue as England's right back ahead of their World Cup knockout tie with Senegal. Kieran Trippier started the first two Group B fixtures, but was replaced by the Manchester City star for the victory over Wales on Tuesday night.

The Three Lions secured top spot with a comfortable 3-0 win over their neighbours, courtesy of a brace from Marcus Rashford and a strike from Phil Foden. Gareth Southgate made four changes for the encounter, with Walker making his first start of the competition after recovering from a groin injury.

England have so far setup with a back four, although previous tournaments show Southgate could switch to a back five should they reach the latter stages. The Three Lions are on course for a quarter-final date with world champions France, should both sides successfully negotiate their round-of-16 ties with Senegal and Poland.

Trippier would likely be called upon at wing-back should Southgate opt for back five, with Walker joining Harry Maguire and John Stones in central defence. However, Neville no longer believes England will switch systems, suggesting the Newcastle United star will remain on the bench.

He told Gary Neville's World Cup Podcast : "We're going into a different phase of the tournament. It's a big step up against Senegal on Sunday, they'll be right up for it. They're a good team, and we're going to have to be at a higher level than we've performed at so far.

"Our lads and Gareth will know that. It'll be interesting to see how we go, there are some selection issues to look at. Does Mount come in for Jordan Henderson? Who do we play in the wide areas?

"I'm sure Kyle will stay in at right back, that looks like a collision course waiting to happen, Mbappe versus Walker. We've got the perfect right back to be able to deal with Mbappe, if anyone can deal with him."
