An EFL chairman launched a strong defence of Nottingham Forest’s recruitment drive as he lavished praise on head coach Steve Cooper and the club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis.
After winning promotion from the Championship, Forest signed a host of new players and recently set a record for the most debuts given by a club in the single Premier League season.
The Reds struggled for results early on, with Cooper’s position coming under increasing scrutiny at one stage. However, owner Marinakis’s decision to stick with the Welshman has been vindicated, with the Reds rising to 13th in the table, six places above the relegation zone.
Nottingham Forest break Premier League record previously set by Harry Redknapp
Andre Ayew’s introduction off the bench against Leeds United saw Nottingham Forest break a 17-year-old Premier League record.
A total of 22 players have now made their league debuts for the club so far in 2022/23, including 17 summer signings and five winter arrivals. The debuts of goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who started after arriving on loan from PSG, and Ayew took Forest beyond of the record set by Portsmouth, then managed by Harry Redknapp, reports PA.
Portsmouth handed out 21 debuts in 2005/06, having limped to a 16th-placed finish in the previous campaign. Alain Perrin was in charge at the start of the term, but was sacked in November with Pompey in the relegation zone.

However, a report from Danish outlet Kicker claims Tah has now found a new agent to represent him in Pini Zahavi. This could be seen as an indication that he is striving for a change.
Chris Hughton tipped for new job after Nottingham Forest sacking
Former Nottingham Forest manager Chris Hughton has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Mark Fotheringham at Huddersfield.

Fotheringham, meanwhile, was dismissed less than 24 hours after Huddersfield's 2-2 draw at Blackpool after being in the lead twice. A statement released by the Terriers read: "Huddersfield Town can confirm that it has terminated the contract of head coach Mark Fotheringham with immediate effect. His assistant, Kenny Miller, has also left the club."
