Gary Lineker will return to Match of the Day after being suspended from his hosting duties by the BBC in a row over impartiality.
Director General Tim Davie made the announcement on Monday morning, apologising for the furore that has erupted over the past few days.
He said: “Gary is a valued part of the BBC and I know how much the BBC means to Gary, and I look forward to him presenting our coverage this coming weekend.”
He also announced the BBC will launch an independent review into its social media guidelines, with a particular focus on freelancers outside news and current affairs like Lineker.
"Everyone recognises this has been a difficult period for staff, contributors, presenters and, most importantly, our audiences. I apologise for this," Davie added.
Lineker said: "I am glad that we have found a way forward. I support this review and look forward to getting back on air."
The presenter was taken off air after the broadcaster asked him to "step back" from Match of the Day after he compared the language used to launch a new Government asylum seeker policy with 1930s Germany in a tweet.
The flagship BBC football show was plunged into chaos over the weekend as fellow pundits, commentators and other staff all refused to work in solidarity with Lineker, with Ian Wright, Alan Shearer and Alex Scott among those boycotting the programme.

That meant that Saturday night's episode aired for just over 20 minutes, without commentary, pundit analysis or post-match interviews.
Talks have been ongoing between Lineker and BBC chiefs over the weekend with hope that the issue will be resolved.
The corporation had already been forced to apologise after its sports programming was hugely impacted by the boycott, with Football Focus and Final Score also pulled from the schedule.
A statement read: “The BBC will only be able to bring limited sport programming this weekend and our schedules will be updated to reflect that. We are sorry for these changes which we recognise will be disappointing for BBC sport fans. We are working hard to resolve the situation and hope to do so soon.”
