Gary Lineker sends Tottenham's Harry Kane message after Bobby Charlton England record equalled

Harry Kane is England’s joint second-highest goal scorer of all time after netting the winner from the penalty spot against Switzerland on Saturday. The Tottenham striker netted for the 49th time for his country, putting him level with Sir Bobby Charlton.

The Three Lions fell behind to Breel Embolo's strike after 22 minutes, but equalised just before half time through Luke Shaw. And England debutant Marc Guehi won a late penalty after his header was adjudged to have been handled by Steven Zuber following a lengthy VAR check.

Kane beat goalkeeper Jonas Omlin with a low, driven spot kick to his left to seal a 2-1 win at Wembley. Gary Lineker, who was previously tied with Kane on 48 goals, took to Social media to congratulate the England captain.

"Was nice having you for company, @HKane. Never thought it would last, but it was fun for a while," he tweeted.

The Spurs striker has been in great form of late and will fancy his chances of claiming the outright record for his country which is held by Wayne Rooney in the not too distant future. The Manchester United legend has 53 goals to his name in 120 appearances for the Three Lions.

Kane only trails Rooney by four goals and has amassed his total in just 68 caps, he will have another opportunity to add to his tally when England welcome the Ivory Coast to Wembley on Tuesday.
