Gary Lineker's 'don't sell' message to Leicester amid Newcastle United's James Maddison interest

Gary Lineker has sent out a message to Leicester City following Newcastle United's interest in James Maddison. The Magpies-linked midfielder scored in Leicester's 4-2 defeat at Arsenal on Saturday.

Newcastle are keen on signing Maddison, but no deal has been agreed between the two clubs. Leicester have reportedly turned down two bids from the Magpies for the playmaker.

The East Midlands club have remained firm in their stance that only one of Maddison and Wesley Fofana will be sold this summer, and at this stage it is Chelsea who are reportedly closer to agreeing a deal for the latter.

Stretching back to last season, across his last six Premier League games, Maddison has scored five goals and claimed four assists. The Foxes are winless in their opening two league matches, but the 25-year-old has been one of the shining lights.

"If they keep all of their players, Leicester will be fine," said former Leicester striker and Foxes fan Lineker on BBC's Match of the Day. "We've gone through some miracle years and we've been punching above our weight, but I've got a feeling we're going to go back to being Leicester City again."

"Maddison is top notch," replied former Premier League defender Micah Richards, who was on the MOTD panel.

Lineker said: "Yes, he is. Stop trying to sell him, shut up!"
