Gary Lineker had an excuse to hand after his side succumbed to a last-minute goal from Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes this afternoon.
Newcastle United delivered a cruel blow to Leicester City this afternoon at St James’ Park, grabbing a win after five minutes of injury time. The Foxes had been 1-0 up in the first half, but Bruno got a scrappy one in the first half and the bullet header in injury time.
The 2-1 win prompted jubilation among Newcastle fans, who took to social media to record their adulation for Newcastle’s new Brazilian. Alan Shearer then joined them in the mass praise.

Shearer tweeted to his Match of the Day colleague and former Leicester City striker Gary Lineker: "It’s a black and white Sunday @GaryLineker #NEWLEI."
To which Lineker replied jokingly: "Rested most of the team for you. Hope you appreciate it.”
It is true that a few key players were missing from the Leicester City starting eleven, most notably James Maddison. However, fans chipped in with their own thoughts on Twitter.
@toonprostars replied: "Heard Maddison was rested over concerns of a diving injury."
@beepee1984 added: "Even those on the pitch appeared to be resting!”
@FilbertStBlues felt the same: "And those that played also rested. Total lack of desire and all eggs firmly in one 3 game basket now.”
The result left Newcastle just three points behind Leicester City, who are ninth in the Premier League table. Newcastle’s next match will be against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night at St James’ Park.
