Gary Lineker responds to Bayern Munich working on audacious Harry Kane transfer attempt

Gary Lineker has joked that Alan Shearer 'might chip in' to Bayern Munich's proposed bid to sign Harry Kane as the German giants plot a move for the Tottenham star.

The 29-year-old is currently on 195 Premier League goals, 65 behind Shearer's all-time record and with Kane banging them in for Spurs on a regular basis, there is a high possibility he could catch that feat. Kane has netted more than 17 goals in each of his last eight top-flight campaigns, with the forward grabbing the Golden Boot on three occasions.

It is an impeccable return and something that should not be underestimated, although reports suggest Bayern are hoping to lure Kane to the Allianz Arena. According to Sky Sports Germany, the German giants are working on a deal to sign Kane, with the England forward available for around €80-100million.

There has been no further developments at this stage for Kane to join Bayern, and bosses are sceptical whether the deal could be realised. Bayern were linked with a switch for Kane in the summer following the departure of talisman Robert Lewandowski, who joined Barcelona, but no deal was able to be reached.

In response to an article from the BBC that shared Bayern's interest in Kane, Lineker replied with a tongue-in-cheek comment. He said: "I think @alanshearer might chip in." Lineker also added a laughing face emoji at the end.

Tottenham's Champions League qualification would've no doubt helped Kane make up his mind on his future amid speculation last summer, with Antonio Conte seemingly transforming Spurs' fortunes during his year in the job. Kane has impressed under the former Chelsea boss and has already struck 12 times in 15 Premier League appearances this term.

Talks have been ongoing surrounding a possible new contract for Kane, who may be keen to stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium given his form this season. Kane currently has just over 18 months left on his current deal and former defender Alan Hutton would like to see him stay at the club.

He told Football Insider : "It will always linger in the background. There is no getting away from the fact that he wants to go and win things. Tottenham have not been able to.

"I think he really did buy into Antonio Conte coming to the club and there was a real feeling that there was an opportunity for them this year to go and get something.

"I think it all depends on their recruitment. Who they bring in, are they building for the future, does he want to be part of that? If he sees them going in the right way then I think he will stay.

"He is about to turn 30, it is possibly his last chance for a big move for him. He has got lots of football left in his legs. I would like to see him stay and have Tottenham continue to build round him."
