Gary Lineker piles on Tottenham misery with three brutal jibes after Newcastle demolition

Gary Lineker has piled in on Tottenham's misery with a brutal joke after their Premier League hammering at the hands of Newcastle. Spurs headed to Tyneside in need of a victory to boost their hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League, but found themselves 5-0 down after just 21 minutes.

A superb strike from Joelinton along with braces for Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak put the game to bed with over an hour still to play. In the second half, Harry Kane netted a consolation goal only for Callum Wilson to restore the five-goal lead just moments later with his first involvement after coming off the bench.

The result was bad for Spurs, but the performance is extremely concerning especially with another major clash to come at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Manchester United this Wednesday. With Spurs in utter turmoil, Lineker was rather enjoying their collapse as he posted several jokes on social media aimed at the north Londoners.

Seconds after Murphy's second goal put Newcastle three in front, Linker tweeted: "Good to see that @SpursOfficial are back on track." No less than 13 minutes later, with Spurs now losing 5-0, Lineker once again poked fun at Cristian Stellini and his players with a bold prediction.

"Gonna stick my neck out: Can’t see Spurs winning this game," the former Tottenham forward joked in another tweet. The final post from Lineker was highly topical as it came just a few moments after the government public alert was sent out to numerous phones in England at 3pm. In line with that, Lineker tweeted: "Alarms have gone off in the Spurs dressing room at half time."

Only adding to the problem at Tottenham, club captain Hugo Lloris was subbed off with Fraser Forster coming on in his place. The 35-year-old replaced Lloris in goal for several fixtures that the latter missed with a knee injury, but he could not prevent the Magpies from drawing a blank in the second 45 minutes.

The damning result leaves Spurs in fifth, six points behind Newcastle who also have a game in hand, with the upcoming home clash against United now extremely important.
