Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer brutally mock Germany as they're knocked out of World Cup

England legends Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have brutally mocked Germany after they were knocked out of the World Cup at the group stage in Qatar.

Despite coming from behind to beat Costa Rica 4-2 in their final group game, Hansi Flick's side were eliminated as Japan caused a huge upset to beat Spain after a controversial winning goal. It meant Germany fail to progress to the knockout stages in an enormous surprise - and Shearer and Lineker wasted no time rubbing salt in the wounds.

Shearer shared a video of himself, Gary Lineker and Micah Richards in stitches in a recent clip from their BBC Match of the Day podcast alongside the caption: "Germany are out of the #FIFAWorldCup in the group stage!!!"

Lineker shared the same clip and wrote: “Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win.” If they get through the group stage."

Gary Neville also couldn't resist a dig at Germany on ITV Sport as they debated Japan's controversial winner. He said: " The reason why I’m a little bit relaxed is that Germany are the ones suffering and we’ve suffered a lot to the hands of Germany over the years."

Discussing the remarkable end to the group, Neville said: " It’s absolutely stunning, what we’ve just seen is incredible. Germany going out the tournament… I can’t believe it."

Japan's win means they finish top of Group E and will face Croatia in the last-16. Spain will take on Morocco having finished second in the group.

Germany forward Thomas Muller suggested he will now retire from international football after the game.

"If that was my last game for Germany, a few words to the German fans: It was a tremendous pleasure," he said in a post-match interview.

"Thank you very much. I always tried to show heart on the pitch. Sometimes there were tears of joy, sometimes pain. I did it with love. I need to think about everything else now."
