Gary Anderson Eyes Third Darts World Championship

Two-time world champion Gary Anderson has set his sights on a third World Darts Championship title, arriving at the Alexandra Palace for the 2025 tournament in hot form.

The 53-year-old Scot is brimming with confidence, and the best betting sites have him priced as one of the top contenders for the prestigious Sid Waddell Trophy.

Gary Anderson’s 2024 Form

The past year has been a good one for Anderson, who last claimed the World Championship in 2016.

After a few quieter seasons, 2024 saw ‘The Flying Scotsman’ secure three ranking titles, including a victory on the European Tour.

These wins have rekindled his hunger and belief. “I probably am playing better than ever,” Anderson told the PDC’s official website, reflecting on his form.

“The amount of 110+ averages I’ve hit – I’ve had averages over 120, I’ve had 114s, 113s, 112s. I just turn up and enjoy it.”

Anderson attributes much of his success to a relaxed attitude on the Pro Tour circuit. “We have a bit of a banter, and then I chuck a few arrows, and it seems to be working a treat for me!” he said with a smile.

Anderson Predicts A Highly Competitive Tournament

Despite his form, Anderson is fully aware of the depth of competition at this year’s World Championship.

He starts at 10-1 odds, with tournament sponsors Paddy Power naming him among the favourites, though he is quick to highlight the breadth of talent in the field.

“You’re going to have your favourites – Luke Humphries, [Michael] Van Gerwen, young Luke Littler,” Anderson said. “Then you’ve got outsiders like Mike De Decker, Ritchie [Edhouse], Ryan Searle. It’s going to be an interesting one, I think.”

The Scot predicts a highly competitive tournament, with a field packed with top players capable of delivering championship-worthy performances.

“There’s going to be that many top players all at the same level, and it’s going to be some battle. It could kick up some stink. There could be someone who comes from out of the blue to win it.”

Despite his confidence, Anderson remains grounded. “If my floor game goes on to the stage every game, it would be looking good, but whether that happens is a completely different story,” he admitted.

“It would be nice to win this title again, but I don’t look that far ahead!”
