He's absolutely nailed the restaurant experience here in Wales, now Ynyshir's Gareth Ward is taking his next step in feeding and watering foodies by opening a pub alongside the two Michelin star restaurant.
The chef, who had been at Ynyshir since 2013, told trade website, The Caterer that land behind Ynyshir is hopefully going to be put to use. He said: "Our ambition is to turn some of the land behind the restaurant [into a pub]. Planning permission is nearly done and we want to have it open by the end of this year.
"The overheads are massive at Ynyshir and the land will help pay its way."

Currently the land at the site, which is located near Machynlleth, has an old farm and a barn there and the County Durham chef is going to call the pub the Legless Thatch – a take on the village name Eglwys Fach, where you can find Ynyshir.
Ynyshir has possessed one Michelin star for the past eight years and is now breaking new Welsh ground with its second, one of only five new venues in the UK to achieve two stars for 2022. It's a true destination restaurant for foodies who are prepared to splash out for the best ingredients, with their 30-course taster menu which takes up to four or five hours to enjoy.
As well as now being two-star Michelin rated, Ynyshir has accolades and awards like five AA Rosettes and named best restaurant in Wales according to the 2021 National Restaurant Awards (15th in the UK overall). Gareth was also named chef of the year in 2019 by the Good Food Guide. To get the latest What's On email updates from WalesOnline, click here
