Gareth Southgate hints at England frustration with Manchester United's Marcus Rashford

Gareth Southgate is disappointed Manchester United's Marcus Rashford is not available for England during the international break.

Rashford was included in England's squad for Euro 2024 qualifying games against Italy and Ukraine, but he withdrew from international duty with a knock that he sustained against Fulham last weekend, before travelling to New York for a holiday.

The forward posted pictures of himself in Central Park with his partner on social media. It is believed that England were unaware of his trip to the USA after his withdrawal.

Southgate was asked by reporters in Italy about Rashford's absence and he appeared to hint at some frustration: "Well, the feeling was he was playing really well, but we haven't often had him.

"So, in terms of a loss when you haven’t had him that often, then it’s different to being a loss. But without a doubt he was in good form. We were looking forward to seeing him."

Rashford's injury remains unspecified after he was taken off seven minutes from time in the FA Cup win against Fulham.

Southgate only used Rashford from the bench in the knockout stages of the World Cup, which he received criticism for. The forward scored three goals at the tournament and that haul included a brace in the 2-0 win against Wales in the group stage.
