Former Brazil and Barcelona playmaker Rivaldo has tipped Gareth Bale to make a return to the Premier League next season, but with Newcastle United and not Tottenham.
The Welsh international is out-of-contract in the summer, putting a potential end to nine-years at the Bernabeu as he looks set to become a free agent.
The winger did make a return to Spurs in his time with the Los Blancos though, making the loan move last January and scoring 15 goals and assisting three times in 32 appearances.
Bale then returned to Madrid after competing for Wales in the European Championships, where he has made just five appearances this season.
Returning Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti all-but confirmed that the former Tottenham star will leave as a free agent at the end of this season.
Speaking in his press conference, the Italian coach said: “His contract is about to end and it could be that he didn't have much motivation in recent times.
"Now he's feeling good, and he wants to end his time here as he deserves, because Bale has brought many titles to this club.
"He helped the club to win the Champions League and Copa Del Rey titles, so I think that ending his time here on a high would be good for his career.”
While there is speculation over the 32-year-old’s future, there will certainly be a desire to continue playing for his nation.
Bale has consistently stated his desire to play for Wales, with the country involved in World Cup Qualifying play-offs later this year before the Qatar 2022 World Cup itself.
And with rumours surrounding his next destination, former Brazil star Rivaldo believes that he should make the switch back to the Premier League.
Speaking to Betfair, he said: “Despite not being as regular as many would expect he leaves the club with a bunch of titles after actively contributing for many of them.
“Now, it's time to embrace a new challenge and there are plenty of rumours.
“I think he could even stay in Spain if a good offer arrives from a club with European ambitions, but the most likely scenario should be a return to England to a league he knows well, but that is also more demanding than any other.
“Perhaps the most recent rich club in the Premier League, Newcastle, might convince him to return to the highest level as one of the stars of the team next season, in which will presumably become a very interesting squad.”
It remains to be seen what the next step will be for the Welshman, with his future seeming further and further away from Real Madrid.
While it may not end how it was envisioned, he still takes plenty of titles away with him, knowing he is likely to still be in-demand at just 32-years-old.
