'Gardeners, kids and motorists would all suffer if water firms introduced curbs'

A summer of hosepipe bans after the driest July for a century would be miserable for millions of people.

Thames Water threatening curbs only hours after Southern Water imposed the first ban for a decade may be the start of a flood of restrictions from privatised companies.

Gardeners who love their plants, kids playing in paddling pools and motorists who like to drive clean cars would all suffer as we once again endure the impact of climate change.

Yet we are also suffering from these highly profitable water firms failing to invest in plugging leaks and emergency reserves and preparing more thoroughly for droughts.

Protecting our country and the planet is a national and international priority and if it is not addressed it will harm the way we live.

But that does not get the water companies off the hook when they are accused of putting shareholders before customers.

Vardy foul play

Coleen Rooney hit the back of the net after the Wagatha Christie libel trial that will be a financial and personal disaster for “untrustworthy” Rebekah Vardy.

When ordinary families are struggling to pay for food and power bills during the cost of living crisis, the £3million expense could have been far better spent helping others.

Vardy, wife of Leicester and former England striker Jamie, is now left licking her wounds.

The WAG has wasted a fortune to watch her reputation be torn to shreds after this costly own goal.

In launching the action then failing to settle, she is truly the author of her own downfall.

Hug on Tyne

Ant McPartlin’s consoling hug for Declan Donnelly at his brother’s funeral was more than the comfort of a workmate.

The presenters had an emotional embrace at the service for Fr Dermott, 55, today.

After years of major success, it is clear the Geordie TV duo, who met on kids’ show Byker Grove, are closer than ever.
