Close to 30 million Brits regularly get out into their green spaces and gardens, a number that has boomed since successive lockdowns saw the public fall back in love with getting their hands dirty.
And the bank holiday long weekend for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee could be the best chance for budding gardeners to spruce up their outdoor space.
The mental and physical benefits of gardening have long been known, with some doctors now prescribing 'green therapy' for patients, while new studies have laid bare its life saving potential.
Published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, findings outlined how doing half an hour per week of muscle strengthening activities such as heavy gardening could help reduce the risk of dying from any cause by 10-20 percent. The enormous growth in gardening interest has seen garden centres rise in popularity and even experiences shortages in plants.
Meanwhile, Gardeners' World, the UK's leading weekly show for the green fingered, regularly attracts over 2.5 millions viewers. As many amateur horticulturalists use the four-day weekend to get out in their green spaces, we've got all the latest garden centre opening times for the Platinum Jubilee.
