A warning has been issued by Gardaí to residents in Mayo over reports of a break-in by a “masked crime gang” in the county.
An investigation has been launched by officers following an attempted robbery at a house in Belmullet during the weekend. Details of the suspected thieves were subsequently released to the public.
According to Galway Beo, reports have emerged that several people clad in balaclavas gained entry into a property located on the edge of the Industrial Estate in Belmullet at around lunchtime, entering a room where one member of the household was asleep.

Once they had gained access to the room and realised there was a person there, the thieves reportedly became startled, shouted to another accomplice in another part of the house and ran off.
Although no further details of the incident have yet been made available, it has been said that the gang drove off in a silver-coloured Audi.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the Belmullet area yesterday to get in touch.
It comes after reports in the local community of an incident on Sunday afternoon in Roscommon.
A community alert group in county Roscommon had been warning other residents that a silver Audi A3 with three males were also disturbed during a break-in to a house, in a location between Ballymurray, Roscommon and Rahara at about 3.30pm on Sunday.
It is feared that Galway will be targeted next after the incidents.
