Gardai rush to scene after man in his 30s violently assaulted in Cork city

A man in his 30s was assaulted in a violent incident on Patrick’s Street in Cork City this afternoon.

The attack happened on the street close to Phelan's Pharmacy at around 4pm on Friday.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported a trail of blood on the footpath on Patrick's Street and the area has been cordoned off.

Gardai and ambulance crew attended the scene and the victim is being treated for his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and no arrests have been made so far.

In a statement on Friday evening, "Gardaí are currently at the scene of an assault on St Patrick’s Street, Cork, that occurred shortly after 4pm this afternoon, Friday 21st January 2022.

"A male in his 30s is currently being treated for injuries which are understood to be non-life threatening.

"No arrests have been made, investigations are ongoing."
