Gardai have today renewed an appeal for information amid their continued investigation into the murder of a 26-year-old man in Co Meath.
Paul Gallagher was shot and fatally wounded at Ballymacan, Slane on Monday, July 28, 2014 and was ‘in the company of a man’ - believed to be an innocent friend - at the time of his death.
It is understood that they were in Tullyallen village before heading to Ballymacan, where they were joined by two other men.
Two days later the 26-year-old's body was discovered in a field after his family became concerned for his welfare and reported it to An Garda Siochana.
Officers have been working on finding the person responsible for Paul’s death - which was confirmed to have been a result of numerous gunshot wounds.
As efforts got underway back in 2014, An Garda Siochana made appeals for public information and appeared on ‘Crimecall’ in September 2014.
A number of arrests have been made in relation to the investigation but officers have yet to charge someone with his gruesome murder.
On the eighth anniversary of his death, investigating gardai are continuing to appeal for information on the case and believe that a number of people have vital information but are yet to come forward.
As the years have passed, investigators believe some of those people “may now be in a position to assist in bringing those responsible to justice.”
In a statement released today, a spokesperson said: “With the passage of time some person may now be in a position to provide information to investigating Gardaí that they could not provide at the time, or maybe some person who did provide information at the time may be now in a position to provide further information.”
Therefore, anyone with information can contact investigating Gardaí at Navan Garda Station 046 9036100, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
