Gardai have launched a probe into an incident of criminal damage which saw a small fire started near a Luas stop.

The Red Line stop at Goldenbridge in Drimnagh was the scene of the incident, which saw an object lit on fire at the bike racks nearby.

Gardai attended the incident after receiving a report from a member of the public.

A video from Goldenbridge was shared by music promoter and campaigner Buzz O'Neill-Maxwell showed the damage done to the stop.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed: "Gardaí attended an incident of criminal damage by fire that occurred on Goldenbridge Terrace in the Dublin 8 area at approximately 9pm last night, Monday, 17th October 2022.

"No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."

The incident comes during Dublin Fire Brigade's Fire Safety Week campaign.

National Fire Safety Week, (17 - 23 October), jointly run with the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, seeks to raise awareness among the public of measures to prevent fires, particularly in the home.

This year’s National Fire Safety Week theme is "Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives – Have you a plan if yours goes off?”

The key advice from the Government’s National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Services is that all family members young and old should know what do if the alarm goes off, where to assemble and to call 999 or 112 to alert local fire services.

The latest data released by the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM) reveal that 20,545 fires were attended to by fire brigades in 2021. The reported data finds that chimney fires (including flues, soot and hot ashes) are the top cause of fire, accounting for more than 50% of fires in domestic buildings.
