An Garda Siochana has been criticised after it launched a job advertisement for a Chef de Partie at the Garda College in Templemore.
The College is the national centre for police training, development and learning within the Irish State. There is accommodation for 493 people, and a restaurant with the capacity for 400 people.
The college in Tipperary is an incredibly busy campus, so the role would see plenty of responsibilities

Handily, gardai have put together a list of those responsibilities:
- Develop and plan menus and daily special;
- Create prep lists for catering assistant;
- Have an understanding of food costing and inventory;
- Maintain standards for food storage, rotation, quality, and appearance;
- Liaising with the relevant companies for food orders;
- Monitoring and controlling stock level;
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety procedures in the kitchen;
- Ensure compliance with applicable health codes and regulations;
- Ensure maintenance and cleaning schedules for equipment, storage, and work areas;
- Demonstrate an experience of large scale catering;
- Food preparation and rigorous adherence to HACCP.
And this is where people have taken issue with the job description - saying that the role is actually more suitable as a Head Chef.
A 'Chef de Partie' is chef in charge of a particular area of production in a restaurant.
And a number of people called out the force for their advertisement.
One person wrote: "Story folks, but your requirement s of a future candidate for the job of Chef de partie, isn't what a Chef de partie does. It is the job of a Chef we cuisine to do what you require. If your Chef de Partie has to do everything that you described, then what does your Chef do?"
Another said: "This is not a chef de partie job. This is a head chef job without the higher wage. All these responsibilities are a head chef roll.
While a third said: "Imagine what the head chef has to do if that's the chef de parties job!"
