Gardai confirmed two motorcyclists died in the M50 crash this afternoon that brought the city to a standstill.
The collision happened at 2pm between junction 7 and 9 with ambulances, fire brigades and gardai rushing to the scene.
The two motorcyclists, males aged in their 50s and 60s, were pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was uninjured.
Part of the northbound motorway were shut and remain closed this evening as officers continue to deal with the aftermath of the crash.
Social media users have also been slammed and warned by gardai after graphic images of the crash were shared.
In a tweet, the gardai said: "An Garda Síochána is aware of graphic images of today's Fatal Road Traffic collision which are being shared across social media and messaging apps. An Garda Síochána appeals to everybody, DO NOT SHARE This Material, it is disrespectful to the deceased, their family and friends."
Gardai are however appealing for witnesses to come forward if they can help in the investigation.
A garda spokesperson said: "Due to a fatal road traffic collision on the M50 Northbound shortly before 2pm today, the motorway remains closed between Junction 9 and Junction 7 with diversions in place as Gardaí investigate the incident.
"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling on the M50 Northbound before Junction 9 prior to the road being closed or to any road users who may have passed the scene to please make this footage available to Gardaí.
"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Lucan Garda Station on 01 6667300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
Some road users were stuck in the traffic for hours and ended up missing flights, with thousands using the M50 northbound to get to the airport every day.
