Gardai catch driver going 210km/h on M3 in Co Meath

Gardai in Co Meath caught one driver travelling at an enormous speed on the M3 over the weekend.

“Our message is simple, #SlowDown,” the representative of An Garda Siochana posted on Facebook.

A driver was caught travelling at a speed of 210km/h in Meath on Saturday, June 18, by members of An Garda Siochana. Court proceedings are to follow as a result.

A post on An Garda Siochana Facebook page said: “Motorist detected travelling at a speed of 210km/h on the M3 in County Meath by the Meath Divisional Roads Policing Unit.

“Court proceedings to follow.”

Two photos were attached to the post, with one showing a black car pulled over by a Garda motorbike, and another showing the huge speed.

“An Garda Síochána remains committed to ensuring compliance with road traffic legislation to improve safety on our roads,” the post continued.

“Our message is simple #SlowDown.”

Many Facebook users were horrified by the speed, with the post clocking up over 430 comments and 1,000 reactions.

One person wrote under the photo: “No wonder people are killed. No consideration for other road users.”

“Should get a lifetime ban! That's ridiculous putting people's lives at risk,” another said.

A third commented: “[The post] should read, ‘Driving ban for 5 years and custodial sentence and advance driving test exam imminent.’ People cannot plead they do not know the rules and if they break them, then they should not expect the law to be lenient.”

Many had well wishes for the Gardai who stopped the driver, with some thanking them for their work. “Well done to the Gardai. Enough deaths on our roads,” one said.
