A garda was assaulted in Bray yesterday evening by a man who "became aggressive" and "resisted arrest".
The incident happened at around 8:30pm after gardai responded to reports of theft from a retail premises on Castle Street. Video footage of the incident shows two gardai trying to detain the man in the middle of the road.
One of the officers is then struck in the face by the man after repeatedly ordering him to "get down on the ground". At the end of the clip, it appears the officers used pepper spray in an attempt to detain him.

The man was later restrained and arrested by gardai for public order offences. The garda who was assaulted received treatment for his injuries at the scene.
A garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardai in Bray responded to reports of theft from a retail premises on Castle Street in Bray on Wednesday evening, 14 September 2022. The incident occurred around 8.30pm.
"While attempting to arrest man (30s) , this man became aggressive towards Gardaí and resisted arrest. The man was later restrained and arrested for public order offences.
"One of the Garda members dealing with the incident received treatment for injuries at the scene. Investigations ongoing."
