Not only did the driver have no valid licence, they also had no insurance, no tax and no NCT - all of which are major breaches of Irish law.
Gardai confirmed the incident online and say the car has been seized and the driver now faces court sanctions.
In a post on Twitter, officers confirmed: “Roscommon RPU conducting MIT checkpoint in Roscommon Town. The vehicle turned from the checkpoint.
“Stopped and the driver found to have no Driving Licence, no Insurance, no Tax or NCT.
“Vehicle seized and Court date to follow.”
Under Irish law, if a driver is caught without a valid licence, you could face serious punishment such as a fine, penalty points and a driving ban.
Meanwhile, if you drive while uninsured, you could be fined up to €5000 and get 5 penalty points.
You could also go to prison for up to 6 months. The judge may decide to disqualify you from driving instead of giving you penalty points.
Finally, it is also an offence to drive a vehicle in a public place without a current NCT certificate.
This applies to vehicles from the fourth anniversary of their first registration and the penalty for driving without an NCT certificate is a fine of up to €2000, and/or up-to 5 penalty points and/or imprisonment for up to 3 months.
