A flurry of recent polling in the race for mayor of Chicago has shown Paul Vallas surging and Jesus “Chuy” Garcia fading after a blitzkrieg of ads tying Garcia to two indicted Democratic powerhouses: former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and former crypto-currency mogul Sam Bankman-Fried.
That helps to explain why Garcia is now pushing a line of attack against Vallas that Mayor Lori Lightfoot has used for weeks: Vallas is a “fake Democrat” who is, in reality, an anti-abortion, pro-voucher Republican and a threat to women’s rights, workers’ rights and funding for public schools.
